The studio

A small studio with a narrow focus.

Mystic Fox Studio makes word and puzzle games that are calm to play and safe to hand to a child. We would rather do that one thing properly than a great many things adequately.

What we make

Games you can play for four minutes or forty, that do not punish you for putting the phone down, and that ask nothing of you before you start. Our first release, Zen Unscramble, is a word game with nine ways to play and no clock unless you want one.

We focus on kid-safe games

This is the studio's one firm rule, and it is a constraint on the work rather than a claim about it. In practice it means three things.

  • Content is reviewed, not imported. A dictionary is not a word list for a family game. Ours is read through by hand, and words go out for how they are used, not for how their definition reads.
  • No strangers. Multiplayer works between devices on the same Wi-Fi. There is no matchmaking, no public lobby, and no free-text chat — reactions are chosen from a fixed set.
  • As little data as possible. Our games run offline and need no account to play. Anything we do collect is set out in the privacy policy.

How we release

We announce a game when it is real. A title with a name and a page here is one we are confident about; anything earlier is described by its shape rather than given a name it might not keep.

Working on something you think fits? We are a small team and we read everything sent to the studio inbox.
